My Story

On Monday, May 31, 2010, I embarked on a mission to lose weight and to get into the best shape of my life for my wedding. For a long time that mission was a success until life started getting stressful and food became a way to cope with that stress. To make a long story short, the mission fell short before my wedding day was here. And to make things even worse, I stopped eating healthy, exercising, and blogging for over two years. I now have a very beautiful wife and baby boy but my health is still crap. So to turn things around, I am brining back "The Heavy Man" and the "Mission to Healthy."

Day #99 - Travel Series Part 5c, Winning at the Boardwalk

First of all, I hope everyone had a nice relaxing holiday weekend, I know I certainly did. Today, in the best way I can describe it, felt like the "calm" before the "storm." What I mean, is that today was a lot of fun and very "calm." Patty and I took a ride to the beach today with her family. This weekend was exactly what I needed, to get my mind off of the many stresses of work. The "storm" that I was referring to, is the big push that will be taking place at work as I start to prepare for my event in December, down in Charleston, SC. You all will probably be hearing a lot about that from me in the upcoming months.

But for now, let's get back to today. Like I was saying, Patty and I took a ride to the beach near her sister's house in Delaware. And this beach just so happened to have a boardwalk! Now, for those of you who don't know me, I am a huge fan of boardwalk games. It doesn't matter what kind of game it is or what kind of prizes you can win, I am going to play it. If I don't really care for keeping the prize that I win, I will just pass it along to the next person and move onto the next game. Let's just say that I was king of the boardwalk today....lol. I think I won something for each niece and nephew.

However, the real challenge for today was trying to avoid or at least control my craving for all of the greasy but great tasting boardwalk food. I can't tell you how many great smells were coming out of the many different restaurants and candy stores. Not to mention the temptation of trying to win a ton of candy out the many arcade crane games. But when it came down to eating lunch and dinner today, I managed to keep my junk food demons inside. And to be honest, I think I did pretty well today by ordering a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch and a turkey and cheese sub sandwich for dinner.

Well the weekend is now over and it is back to the grind again tomorrow for work and for my mission. My goal for this week is to not let the stress of work get to me, workout everyday hard, and to try and break out of this mini plateau I have been stuck in for the last week. I know some of it may be muscle gain but I want to try and break into the 240's within the next 2 weeks. Wish me luck!

With that being said, let's get to the details of the day:

  2. Hey you!
So guess what?...I need your help =) I lost 11 pounds the first month and now I've been stuck on 187 for two weeks now and I honestly don't know what to do, so I was thinking should I change my calorie intake? or should exercise TWICE a day instead ONCE? I just don't know what to do or what I've changed that I'm not losing or gaining weight anymore...PLEASE HELP

    Thank YOU

  3. Tatiana,

First of all, congrats on losing 11 pounds! Losing weight is no easy task, so you should be proud of yourself.

Now, being stuck at the same weight for two weeks is nothing to be alarmed about. It just means you might be stuck at a plateau. I am currently stuck in one as well.

Being stuck in a plateau just means that your body as become complacent with the exercises you have been using. A good rule of thumb is to always switch up your exercises after a month. This will shock your body and will help you get back to the weight loss process.

What are you currently doing right now in terms of exercise? Also, what was the formula you used in order to determine your calorie intake per day?

I look forward to heraing back from you soon!

  4. HEy!thanks for replying so soon.

I'm currently doing the second of month of the program Insanity, which is one hour long (20 minutes more than the first month)and it's a new routine. About my calorie intake, I didn't really use a formula. I am currently using this website called SparkPeople.com . You can set how many pounds you want to lose in x amount of time, and they will give you the adequate calories you should be eating every day, as well as fat grams, carbs, and proteins. Right now I'm eating 1200-1550 calories,32-56 fat(g),163-236 carbs, and 60-127 of protein. so should I reset my goal?

  5. Tatiana,

I would imagine that if, Insanity, worked for you in the first month, it would work for you in month #2. Those types of programs are designed to switch it up when it is necessary too. I would give it some time and hopefully you will start seeing more results. Just remember that even though you don't see a change in the scale, doesn't mean that your body isn't still changing for the better. It takes time.

As for your food intake, does insanity have a meal plan that comes with it?

Did you reach the goal weight you had set when you first tried out the sparkpeople website?

I am not a nutritionalist but I do know that it is important for your boy to get the nutrients needed to run properly. How many times do you eat a day?
