My Story

On Monday, May 31, 2010, I embarked on a mission to lose weight and to get into the best shape of my life for my wedding. For a long time that mission was a success until life started getting stressful and food became a way to cope with that stress. To make a long story short, the mission fell short before my wedding day was here. And to make things even worse, I stopped eating healthy, exercising, and blogging for over two years. I now have a very beautiful wife and baby boy but my health is still crap. So to turn things around, I am brining back "The Heavy Man" and the "Mission to Healthy."

Day #165 - Travel Series Part 11c - "Back" to Normal

Today's post is going to be short, sweet, and up early again for the second day in a row. I started traveling from Charlotte to home at 3:00am this morning. And on top of traveling today, I went straight to the office from the airport, when I landed in New York. So you can only imagine how tired I am. However, I do have some good news for everyone today. I weighed-in again in the 231 lbs range this morning! Also, my back is feeling a lot better today than it did yesterday.

Like I mentioned before, I woke up this morning at 3:00am to travel back to Charlotte from Greensboro, NC to catch a 7:00am flight. And when I woke up, I was still feeling a little pain in my lower back. So I made sure to keep up with the Advil, every 4-6 hours, as well as attaching the Icy Hot Patch to my back. By the time I arrived back to the office, I was tired, hungry, and very anxious to get home. But my back was feeling better. After spending 2 hours in the office, I packed up and went home because I couldn't focus any more. While driving home, I was debating on whether I should do the treadmill again today or I should get back to weight lifting. I haven't been able to lift weights since late last week and I was chomping at the bit to get back to my weight lifting routine. So I decided that I would start out with lifting some light weights and if I was feeling good, then I would gradually move up. Let me tell you, as soon as I was done executing my pre-lifting stretches, my back was feeling pretty good. My back was feeling so good, that I managed to execute my full weight lifting routine without any pain at all. I guess my back problem had to do with tight muscles after all. To be on the safe side, I am still going to take Advil before I sleep tonight as well as using the last of my Icy Hot Patches. I think I will be "back" to my normal self tomorrow.

I am proud of myself for taking the necessary steps to get back to full health. If this would of happened to me in the past, before I started my mission, I would of used this situation as an excuse to stop working out all together. But not this time. Even though I was in pain, I still managed to get some sort of cardio in everyday. Well, I am off to sleep, talk to you all tomorrow!

With that being said, let's get to the details of the day:

Meals of the Day (The Heavy Man - 36 Points)
(I am currently following the Weight Watcher's Points System)

*I ate healthy the entire day, while I was traveling, except for one meal. Well, maybe I should say one portion of a meal today. I was so hungry today when I arrived back at the office, that I decided to order a serving of Cream of Chicken Soup with my Turkey sandwich. I really don't know how many points the soup calculated out to because I don't know what is in it. So today was a cheat meal day in my book, even though it was just one thing.

Breakfast - 2 small apples and a whole wheat bagel with 1 slice of american cheese
Snacks During the Day - 2 Kashi Bars and 1 serving of Pita Chips
Lunch - Turkey and american cheese sandwich on a whole wheat sub roll, with a side of baked chips, and a serving of Cream of Chicken soup
Dinner - 2 grilled cheese sandwiches (All Weight Watcher's Ingredients) with a serving of baked chips

Exercise

Today I executed the weight lifting portion of my workout routine: Dumbbell Press on Stability Ball, Alternating Single Arm Pull Downs, and Alternating Single Leg Press (4 sets of each x 15 reps each), Push Ups on Half Ball, Lateral Raises on Half Ball, and Triceps Kick Backs with Band (4 sets of each x 15 reps each), Alternating Single Arm Rows, Alternating Front Raises, and Alternating Single Leg Ext (4 sets of each x 15 reps each), and Planks, Alternating Dumbbell Curls (4 sets of each x 15 reps each). Tomorrow I will be doing cardio.

  1. Great job keeping things together while you were travelling!
And thank you for reminding me that I might actually feel better if I work out...( I was feeling so stiff and creaky today I talked myself out of it).
You were wise to rest your back and seemed to know when to push it a bit.
Do you feel like you are better able to tune into what your body actually needs now?

  2. He-man,

Those 220's are right around the corner. Good job for hanging in there during travel. It's hard to do, but totally do-able!
