My Story

On Monday, May 31, 2010, I embarked on a mission to lose weight and to get into the best shape of my life for my wedding. For a long time that mission was a success until life started getting stressful and food became a way to cope with that stress. To make a long story short, the mission fell short before my wedding day was here. And to make things even worse, I stopped eating healthy, exercising, and blogging for over two years. I now have a very beautiful wife and baby boy but my health is still crap. So to turn things around, I am brining back "The Heavy Man" and the "Mission to Healthy."

Day #37 - "The Heavy Man's, Travel Series Part 3a" - On The Road Again

If you are new to the blog, I have a job that demands a lot of hours from my life. However, one of the perks of my job is getting to travel all over this fine country of ours. I have seen good travel days, I have seen rough travel days, and I have seen just down right ugly travel days. Today was one of those days that kinda fell between the rough and the ugly.

On a day like today, when you spend basically the whole day traveling, eating healthy can get a little tricky. You have to know where to look in an airport in order to find a nice healthy meal on the go. But first, my day started out pretty well. I went into the office for about 3 hours this morning to make sure that I had everything I need for my meeting tomorrow. After I left the office, the real fun began. I got to Laguardia Airport, in NYC, in a decent amount of time and had about two hours to spare. However, the directional signs at the airport don't tell you exactly which airlines are at which terminals. I ended up circling the entire airport 4 times passing through each terminal until I finally found my airline. Then, I got out of my car, unloaded my bags, said goodbye to my fiancee, and went inside to check-in. About 15 minutes later, right before I walked up to the security line, I received a call from my fiancee. I had accidentally taken the keys to the apartment and my car with me. She was driving my push to start, Nissan Cube, back to New Jersey with no keys in it. She managed to get the car back to my apartment without the keys!!! I have no idea how that was even possible.

Anyway, after that whole debacle, I had to run through security to my gate with no food in my stomach. The key when you are running late at an airport and need food, is to find the booths that already have healthy sandwiches and fruit cups pre-maid. They have the nutritional facts on the back that I can type into my Weight Watchers' Points Calculator to give me a quick points summary. So, I found one of those booths, grabbed a sandwich and a fruit cup and got onto the plane in just enough time. Once everyone was boarded on the plane, we started to taxi towards the runway when all of a sudden the captain comes on the intercom and says we have to turn around back to the gate to refuel. The airplane did not have enough fuel to get to Chicago. What?!?! It took us almost an hour to refuel and to take off.

We ended up arriving to Chicago at the same time my connecting flight was boarding. I had to quickly get off the plane and run to the next gate before it was to late to board. I was again running to catch a plane with no food in my stomach. I managed to find another healthy food booth right next to my connecting flight's gate. I quickly grabbed a sandwich, a bottle of water, and an apple. After I was boarded on the second plane, we ended up sitting online to get to the runway for an hour and a half. I ended up getting to my final destination an hour past the time I was supposed to originally arrive. But that didn't stop me at all from writing today's post. I am very happy that I worked out first thing this morning as well as managed to eat healthy during the course of this very long travel day. Hopefully all this work leads to a great meeting tomorrow.

With that being said, let's get to the details of the day:

Exercise

This morning I got up at 7:30am and went to the gym. I ran on the elliptical for 30 mins and then I did a core body workout that consisted of medicine ball crunches and dumbbell side raises. There is a fitness center and the hotel I am staying at. I will try to conduct an upper body workout with what is available at the fitness center tomorrow morning.
