My Story

On Monday, May 31, 2010, I embarked on a mission to lose weight and to get into the best shape of my life for my wedding. For a long time that mission was a success until life started getting stressful and food became a way to cope with that stress. To make a long story short, the mission fell short before my wedding day was here. And to make things even worse, I stopped eating healthy, exercising, and blogging for over two years. I now have a very beautiful wife and baby boy but my health is still crap. So to turn things around, I am brining back "The Heavy Man" and the "Mission to Healthy."

Day #175 - A Very Pleasant Surprise

Yesterday I mentioned that Patty and I had a special engagement to attend with all of our friends from college. We have been calling it, "Friend's Thanksgiving" for the past 4 years. It is a Pre-Thanksgiving dinner that we usually hold a week before Thanksgiving Day. It was a very fun and relaxing time yesterday, that was much needed. However, I did put my Weight Watcher's Points aside yesterday to enjoy the day with everyone. And knowing how my body reacts, the day after a cheat day, led me to believe that I would be weighing in this morning, heavier than I have been the last few days. But that assumption was actually the opposite of what happened.

As I stepped up onto the scale this morning, I still weighed in at 228.8 lbs! My first reaction was that my scale was broken again but it is brand new and has been accurate every single day since I have purchased it. After that thought passed through my mind, I continued to think back on the order of events from yesterday, trying to figure out how in the heck I managed to stay the same weight. I did eat healthy the entire day leading up to our main meal, so I didn't eat crappy the whole day. The meal was around 3:30pm yesterday and I didn't eat anything else for the rest of the night, except for a Weight Watcher's ice cream cone. And I did end up going to the gym last night after everything was over. Did these 3 factors play a role in me not gaining any weight after the largest meal I have eaten in a while? I honestly don't have an answer for anyone because I really don't know. It was a very pleasant surprise to me this morning. All I know is that I am not complaining at all. Now who knows if it ends up catching up to me tomorrow, which could happen. But for now I am going to stick to the mission and hope that I escaped yesterday without any weight gain at all.

I also did something this morning that I haven't done in a long time. I woke up at 7:00am to play basketball with a bunch of my friends, that I use to play with every Sunday morning. This was a huge accomplishment for me because I am not a morning person at all. Well, I am extremely happy that I weighed in the same this morning as I did before my "Friend's Thanksgiving" meal. Let's hope that I keep this momentum going into the next week!

With that being said, let's get to the details of the day:

  1. You know, some weeks no weight gain is as good as a weight loss. Congrats on staying the same! I hope you get through this week just as successfully. You're doing great, so if you just keep doing what you've been doing overall, you'll meet your goals in no time! Keep it up!

  2. he-man, maybe you didn't go up in weight because you're metabolizing calories far more efficiently than you used too. i think this a perfect example of the beauty of cardo exercise and strength training.

way to crank out those pounds, happy holidays!
